Our purpose is that you may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that you may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that you may know the mystery of God, namely Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Colossians
Colossians 2:3 “In [Him] are hidden all treasures of wisdom and Knowledge
Our School Motto is Christ, Wisdom, knowledge. We place wisdom before knowledge because not only does wisdom encompass knowledge but so much more. King Solomon was the wisest of Kings, and his life story reveals the riches of wisdom, and throughout the book of proverbs, King Solomon extols the benefits of wisdom. In these amazing versus we are told that wisdom brings protection, health, prosperity, peace and long life. Conditions of wellbeing that we would also seek after.
We are exhorted by Solomon to seek after wisdom with all that we have: “Wisdom is supreme; therefore, get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.” Solomon’s passion for wisdom was expressed in 3000 thousand spoken proverbs and 1500 songs. His passion and conviction of the worth of wisdom was backed by the fruit of wisdom in his life. The bible tells us that the fruit of Solomon’s wisdom was so evident that “Men of nations came to listen to Solomon’s wisdom, sent by all the kings of the world.”
In the days before King Solomon, his father David, and the kings before him had lived in constant war against their enemies. However, through wisdom Solomon created such a stable and safe environment they were in constant rest and he was able to build the temple to God, which had not been achieved before.
Wisdom was seen in the safety and protection that Judah and Israel lived under during King Solomon’s rule. His household and community flourished. His flocks and herds multiplied; King Solomon formed successful and harmonious business relationships with neighbouring kingdoms; we are told his wisdom was seen in the very creative and beautiful display of his household – food, clothing and décor. Wisdom lead to great knowledge of the world God created. Moreover, the people Solomon governed experienced justice!
As we consider much that is going on in our world and the controversial, challenging decisions that our government has to make, let’s pray that wisdom will be at their door. Let us uphold our government with prayers for wisdom and let us choose wisdom in our decisions and counsel. In choosing wisdom, we too will experience the fruit that is the result of walking a life marked by the very thoughts of God. Health, prosperity, peace, and justice will follow us and bless those around us.
